Chimney liners

When thinking of having a  stove installed, always use an approved installer.

Remember stoves are not a one size fits all, everyone's fireplace is different no 2 rooms are the same.

The size of the room to be heated, the opening of the fireplace, the style of the stove and the type of hearth and if required the mantel.

The market place is full of all types and sizes of stoves, your installer should discuss with you your requirements and advise on your best options to suit you and your property, our projects page shows some examples of installations carried out.

commercial chimney flues

In the event that your chamber needs to be fitted with a chimney liner, again always use an approved installer.

your installer can advise on the correct liner for your fireplace, the liner should be installed to suit the appliance in use

For instance a gas liner should not be used on solid fuel, the diameter of the chimney liner should be in fitting with the appliance instructions.

All installations should be commissioned and signed off inline with current document j building regulations, this will be carried out by your approved installer.

The importance of regular sweeping and maintenance

Regardless of if you have had a new installation, or you use an exciting fireplace or stove, sweeping and maintenance is the most important thing.

Having your chimney swept can save lifes "yours", here are some examples of why its so important.

Having a good sweep will clean out any soot deposits and minor blockages of the flue.

Any signs of wear and tear will be apparent at the time of sweeping, regular sweeping will reduce the build up of soot, creosote and tar.

Birds nests and cement chamber decay can also add to the risk of chimney blockages, in some cases this can be the course of a chimney fire along with creosote and tar.

Blockages will also affect the chimney draw and safe exhaust of harmful fumes, chimney integrity is also an issue that affects the safe use of a fireplace, harmful fumes that can leak though holes or loose mortar joints or missing brickwork or even a damaged liner back into the property, tests can be carried out to make sure this is not the case.

Always make sure you have a carbon monoxide detector fixed in place and test at least once a month.
